The method

What is Spiral Stabilisation?

Spiral Stabilisation is a movement method developed by Czech physician Dr Richard Smíšek. It uses specific exercises with an elastic resistance cord to develop coordinated movement through the body’s spiral muscle chains.

The exercises combine strengthening, stretching, stabilisation, coordination and balance, with an emphasis on creating more efficient movement patterns.

The underlying method is based around the interaction between spiral and vertical muscle chains and how they contribute to movement and stability.

Think less “hard workout”, more “teaching your body to move better.”

Why work with me

Why work with Marketa?

Spiral Stabilisation isn’t something I simply add to a workout. It’s a way of looking at how your whole body moves.

As a qualified personal trainer and Spiral Stabilisation Therapist, I combine the method with my wider knowledge of strength, mobility and functional movement.

That means your sessions aren’t a generic sequence of exercises. I observe how you move, identify where you need support and adapt the exercises to you.

What makes it different

What makes Spiral Stabilisation different?

Unlike a conventional strength workout, Spiral Stabilisation focuses strongly on coordination, posture, stabilisation and the quality of movement. Exercises use a light resistance cord and can be adapted to different levels of ability. Sport version of the cord and advanced movements are introduced for progressive training and for enhanced movement especially for sportspeople.

FAQ

Questions about Spiral Stabilisation

Is Spiral Stabilisation suitable for beginners?

Yes. The exercises can be adapted to different levels and introduced progressively.

Do I need to be fit?

No. Sessions are adapted to your starting point.

What equipment do I need?

The exercises use a specialised elastic resistance cord provided by the trainer, which you will learn to use correctly during sessions.

Is Spiral Stabilisation the same as Pilates?

No. While there are some overlapping goals around posture, strength and movement awareness, Spiral Stabilisation is its own movement method based around specific spiral muscle-chain patterns.

Can I combine it with strength training?

Absolutely. Spiral Stabilisation can complement your broader strength and mobility work.

Can it help with back pain?

Spiral Stabilisation is used by practitioners to support movement, posture and muscular balance in people experiencing back discomfort. If you have persistent or unexplained pain, a medical or appropriately qualified healthcare professional should assess you first.
